This rare, tri-gold (18k rose, green and yellow golds) antique French pendant features the month of October in French (“Octobre”). Below this, “Loyauté Franchise” is beautifully engraved above a dark-colored gemstone. Curiously, pendants similar to this feature a birthstone that corresponds to the month engraved on the medallion; however, this untested stone is not an October birthstone. It does make one wonder if the stone somehow correlates to the enigmatic quote engraved upon the face of the pendant. Upon research, “loyauté franchise” possibly translates to “loyalty to freedom” according to old French. Therefore, someone in the 1800s very much wanted to demonstrate their desire for freedom upon their neck, thus it is suspected that the phrase possibly echoes victory of the French resolution a few decades later. This rare and unusual pendant is something we’ve never come across before and makes an incredible addition to one’s collection of antiquities and heirlooms.
